  About Eco-Cem

Eco-Cem is a sustainable fiber-cement solid surface material. Eco-Cem is available in five colors and several thicknesses to meet Classical and Contemporary design needs. It is both lighter and stronger than natural stone.

material overview

Material Content: Silicon-calcium cement (80%) with wood pulp (20%) derived from recycled paper, added for strength and durability.

Applications: Counter tops, Bathroom vanities, Flooring, wall coverings, exterior cladding, and much more.

Benefits of Eco-Cem include: Eco-Friendly, Renewable, Eco-Cem's recycled content may contribute toward LEED accredidation, solid natural apperance similar to honed granite, soapstone or limestone, more durable that traditional cement counter tops, high heat resistance up to 500 degrees.

care & maintenance

Routine Cleaning and Upkeep:

Wash the surface with soap and water followed by a clean water rinse. Clean up spills quickly with a liquid cleaner followed by a clean water rinse. Limited use of abrasive cleaners is ok, but realize that they will remove the finish and with it the coating applied in fabrication, thereby reducing its effectiveness.

Removing Stains &

Repairing Scratches & Burn Marks:

Rub aggressively with an abrasive cleaner applied to a moist cellulose sponge. If that doesn't take care of it, use a 3M Scotchbrite pad, medium coarse, followed by a fine 400 grit abrasive cloth. ** Always keep the surface damp and use moderate pressure with all procedures. Rub in random patterns.

You will now need to re-apply a coat of Aqua Mix Enrich n' Seal. The sealer is used to reduce surface absorption. When applying Enrich n' Seal use a soft cloth and keep coats LIGHT. Buff out excess with a clean cloth. Remember to work in small sections so that the sealer does not dry before you are able to wipe off any excess.

Follow manufacturer application reccommendations.

General Precautions: Clean up spills promptly, especially acidic liquids like citric acid and vinegar, these will leave stains. Do not use your Eco-Cem as a cutting board - it will scratch the surface and dull your knives. Reapply Aqua Mix Enrich n' Seal one to four times per year whenever your Eco-Cem appears dry. Your Eco-Cem may require a different maintenance schedule depending on use.

Material Comparison Chart

Whether you want to know if the material can handle a hot pan being set on it or how it will withstand a spilled glass of red wine, the chart below will help you compare products. No one product can do it all, but Nu-Art’s materials compare well to common popular countertop surfaces. And besides being unique and beautiful, Nu-Art’s materials all are classified as sustainable.

The ratings shown are derived from Nu-Art’s combined experience and from industry specifications.

Heat ratings for the materials are as follows:

SlateScape -  up to 500 degrees (F)
Richlite – up to 350 degrees (F)
Eco-Cem – up to 500 degrees (F)
